Strengths-based Counselling

Melissa uses a strengths-based counselling approach that supports people to change their relationship with the problems they face. This approach helps individuals reconnect with their own skills, strengths, abilities and values — recognising that they are the experts in their own lives. Problems are viewed as separate from the person, creating space for self-understanding and compassion rather than blame. Melissa supports clients to re-author their stories in ways that reflect their strengths and preferred directions in life.

The following are some example areas of support offered (this is not an exhaustive list).

  • Trauma / EMDR Therapy

Child and Teen Counselling

In counselling, children are supported through play and creative expression to explore the challenges they face. Sessions also focus on their strengths and hopes, helping them build confidence and find pathways forward.

Parent Support

Parents are supported using evidence-based approaches such as the Triple P – Positive Parenting Program. These strategies help build strong, positive relationships, encourage healthy behaviour in children, and equip parents with tools to manage challenges calmly and confidently.

A one hour counselling session is $150. Saturday appointments $180.
